For the past 90 years the Kimberley Pipe Band has been an integral part of most major parades and festivals held in the Kootenay region and beyond. Every 10 years, since their 50th anniversary they have hosted a major music and marching performance known as a Tattoo.
The 2017 Kimberley Pipe Band's 90th Anniversary Tattoo will feature a 2 hour show of music, pipes, drums and dancing; a street parade featuring over 200 drummers and pipers; a Saturday night Ceilah - an evening party of music and dancing.
If you are interested in participating in the Kimberley tattoo as a performing band, sponsor or volunteer we'd like to hear from you.
What's a Tattoo?
A musical tattoo is a demonstration of military drumming, piping and skills. It’s called a ‘tattoo’ because when the British Army was fighting in Belgium 300 years ago, soldiers were called in from the pubs each night for curfew, or Doe den tap toe, Dutch for ‘Turn off the tap’.
The Kimberley Tattoo will be a weekend of music, marching, dancing, parades and most of all fun for everyone.
Tattoo News: June 28, 2017
With just under three weeks to go all the pieces are starting to fall into place. We have a weekend of events planned, beginning with a Musical Taste of the Tattoo, in the Platzl at 11:00 until noon, Friday, July 14th. Saturday begins with a pancake breakfast, at Centre 64 from 9:00 am followed by a parade at 10:00. Saturday evening the doors of the Civic Centre open at 5:45 with a full concession, in support of the Kimberley Dynamiters, music with the Kimberley Community Band and then the main show at 7:00 pm. This is followed by a Ceilidh party, music and dance with the Johnny McCuaig Band, out of Nelson.
The are still some Standing room tickets remaining for the evening package (tattoo and ceilidh). No ticket sales at the door.
Planning for the tattoo is well underway. The bands are committed and the first draft of the program is completed. We are now working on details for the parade, through Kimberley along with planning for the ceilidh (after party) with the Johnny McCuaig Band. Early Bird pricing ends January 1st so now is a good time to get your tattoo tickets, just in time for Christmas.
The Kimberley Community Band has just been confirmed as a tattoo participant. The band has been part of previous Kimberley tattoos, held previously on the 50th, 60th, 70th and 80th anniversary of the pipe band so it's nice to welcome them back.
Ticket sales are exceeded our expectations with almost 20% of the reserved seats having been sold in two weeks of being offered.
Tattoo tickets are now available at Early Bird pricing. Tickets may be purchased on-line through Eventbrite. Go to Tickets
